The cultural associations of Livadia organize for the 4th year the event-celebration 'The Walk to the Summit of Psiloritis' on Saturday July 27, with the support of the Municipality of Mylopotamos and Region of Crete.
This year's program includes:
• Gathering of hikers at the site Lakkos Mygerou (mountain refuge near the village of Livadia) at 5:00 in the morning
• Climbing to the top of Psiloritis summit and the chapel of Timios Stavros on a pebbled trail
• Liturgy & communion at the chapel of Timios Stavros
• Traditional Cretan feast with lyras and dances with the (voluntary!) participation of hikers in an altitude of 2,456 m.
• Return to Lakkos Mygerou on the same trail
• Traditional feast with traditionally cooked lamb (ofto, antikrysto), pilaf, good wine & local musicians.
The event is supported by all residents of Livadia region and hosts about 4.000 visitors every year from around the world.
The organization of the Walk is a difficult task, since it takes place in an altitude of 1,700 m. with no shade, running water or electricity.
The scope of this event is to promote the Mountain of Psiloritis as a tourist and cultural destination.
