Thirty Cretan artists are inspired by the work and the personality of Nikos Kazantzakis

On Wednesday, October 2, 2013 at 20:00, the Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete opens the exhibition Report on Nikos Kazantzakis. The invitation is extended jointly with the Rethymnon Local Committee of the International Society of Friends of Nikos Kazantzakis, which is also celebrating its 25 years.

The title of the show is borrowed from the writer himself and his emblematic book Report on Greco. The artists worked in many and varied ways, depending on their media and, above all, on what it is they love in Kazantzakis — be it the force, the flame, the passion, the faith, the love of thinking, the love of bread and the soil, or the highest point anyone can attain: the Awe, the Holy Terror or anything else in the legacy left to us by the great writer and philosopher.

The participating artists are:

Theodosia Argyraki-Assargiotaki, Olga Verykaki, Nikos Viskadourakis, Antonis Volanakis, Yorgos Gyparakis, Sophia Datseri, Angeliki Douveri, Michalis Doukoumetzakis, Stella Driyannaki, Calliope Kouklinou, Stella Koukoulaki, Dimitra Koumantaki, Yannis Koumentakis, Marina Maravelaki, Yannis Markantonakis, Lambrini Boviatsou, Constantina Bolieraki, Costas Pagomenos, Eftychis Palikaris, Marios Papoutsakis, Anastasia Petraki, Corina Prevedouraki, Chryssoula Skepetzi, Yannis Stefanakis, Eva Tzagaraki, Dimitrios Tzanis, Vangelis Tzermias, Yannis Tzermias, Zacharias Tsamandouras, Antonakis Christodoulou.

The show will run through November 30 together with parallel events such as lectures, actions and film screenings: the Kazantzakis Museum has lent two films on the life and work of Nikos Kazantzakis which will be shown throughout the duration of the exhibition. The exhibition is accompanied by a bilingual catalogue published with financial support by the Regional Administration of Crete.
