2014 is the year of El Greco, the great Cretan Renaissance painter (Spain - Greece). Yakinthia festival, however, chose to honor another great representative of the Renaissance: Vincenzo Cornaro - who died on the same year as El Greco, 1614- and his legenfary hero, Erotokritos. Unfortunately for our english speaking audience, the speeches and theatrical plays will be in the Greek language; but the unique location of Yakinthia festival 1260m. high up Psiloritis mountain, and the international language of music are still enough to charm visitors.
For the 17th year, St. Yakinthos invites you to experience cretan art and nature, on Friday July 25 and Saturday July 26.
The first day features two concerts: Christos Sifakis in a unique Flamenco Jazz trio and the Cretan quartet of Stelios Petrakis and Thanasis Mavrokostas.
The second day features speeches and a theatre play (in Greek). A painting exhibition inspired by the heroes of Erotokritos and modern personalities of Crete will be open to the public both days.
