In the hills above the village of Makrigialos lays the villa Casa dei Mezzo. With the help of Arkadia Architects (Norway) a spectacular house surrounded by an olive grove was created and completed in 2003.
In 2004 the villa became the home of Casa dei Mezzo Music festival that lasted 11 years. Artists from all over the world came to perform and made Casa dei Mezzo and Makrigialos famous outside of the borders of Greece. Due to the hard times that hit Greece, public funding was cut and the festival had to close but the dream of continuing never faded and instead of making a 6 day festival music will return to Casa dei Mezzo for a week-end of Summer Concerts on 24-25-26 June.
Our Flagship, the Bösendorfer 290 Imperial, will again be the star at Casa dei Mezzo concerts joined by Tarek Al-Shubbak (Piano), Amit Yahav (Piano), Hege Høisæter (Mezzo soprano), Hubert Wild (Baritone), Janusz Wawrowski (Violin) and Bogumila Wawrowska (Soprano).
In July a major international opera workshop will be held at Casa dei Mezzo with two performances of Mozart’s opera Idomeneo.
We have set no theme but Crete’s primary venue for classical music is back.
