Nikos Kazantzakis Museum is pleased to announce that from the current year and for the upcoming years it plans to organize a new and ambitious cultural festival that aims to become an annual event. The festival is dedicated to the travel writings of the great Greek writer and thinker, Nikos Kazantzakis and is entitled “Travelling…”
2016, this first year of the cultural event, is dedicated to Spain and is referring to Kazantzakis’ relative book.
A six-day cultural festival full of musical collaborations and meetings, lectures, discussions, workshops, events, concerts, interactive happenings and lots of other events that will travel us back in space and time. That will create a space of cultural parallels between the two countries: Spain and Greece (Crete) that have deeply inspired and influenced the man and the writer Nikos Kazantzakis.
The festival aims to bring together artists from different fields (musicians, dancers, actors, artists), thinkers etc., and to contribute to the interaction between them and the local community, as well as the public in general. It also aspires to enable young artists and creators to express and share their creativity and talents by exploiting the human potential which is the most important value that we can rely on for the endogenous development of an area, especially a rural areas such as Myrtia, where the Museum is located. The festival also aims to enrich our knowledge on this Mediterranean country and bring light to the bonds and common links between Greece, Spain and Crete in particular.
Furthermore, it will be the basis for other future ‘Travelling…’ festivals which will bring together the cultures and countries where Kazantzakis travelled and wrote about. Thus, “Travelling... England, Russia, China, Japan, Cyprus, Italy, Jerusalem, Moriah, and Sinai’ will be the upcoming projects for the next years.
