8th International Sculpture Symposium in the Municipality of Heraklion

The 8th International Sculpture Symposium of Heraklion will take place at the village of Venerato between July 4 and 24, 2016, with the participation of eight artists from Greece, Serbia, Russia, India and New Zealand. The International Sculpture Symposium is an important event that this year celebrates its ten years (2006 - 2016), organized by the Social Enterprise of Culture - Social Welfare - Environment of Heraklion Municipality.

The distinguished artists will sculpt their works using white marble of Thassos. On July 4, the sculptors will receive rough marble blocks of up to 2.5 meters. Until July 24 they will sculpt their works in public space, accessible to all visitors. Admission is free to all who want to see how art "emerges" from raw blocks of marble. The closing ceremony of the Symposium will take place on Sunday July 24, when sculptors deliver their projects to the Municipality of Heraklion. Eight sculptures made of white Thassos marble will become the property of the Municipality of Heraklion, to be set up in public places.
