Archaeological sites and monuments throughout Crete are open to the public in the night for the August full moon, on August 26th.
Since 2002, the Hellenic Ministry of Culture has been organizing events of the August Full Moon since 2002, opening archaeological sites and monuments to the public. The Full Moon events of August 2018 are part of the European Year of Cultural Heritage 2018.
Entrance to all sites is free to the public.
August Full Moon 2018 in Crete - Program
Archaeological Museum of Herakleion
Concert with the musical ensemble "Vamos Ensemble" and Ioanna Forti in the museum garden. Start time 21:00. Open to the public from 20:00 to 24:00.
Archaeological Site of Aptera
The site will be open to the public from 20:00 to 24:00
Archaeological site of Rokka
Symphonic concert with National Symphonic Orchestra of HRT under the direction of the maestro Myron Michailidis. Start time 20:30
Archaeological site of Malia
Musical event titled "I unwrap my life" with the participation of the choir of Malia under the direction of the maestro Nikos Antonakis and the artist Stamatis Spanoudakis. The event will be held in cooperation with the Municipality of Hersonissos and the Region of Crete. The archaeological site will remain open from 21:00 until the end of the event.
Archaeological Site of Phaistos
Only the courtyard of the archaeological site will be open for the view of the Minoan palace (the palace will be closed). The courtyard area will remain open to the public from 20:00 until 23:00
Archaeological Site of Tylissos
"Musical Jazz Night with the jazz-o-matic band", in memoriam of Constantine Kouvidis. The event will take place in the surrounding area of Tylisos archaeological site in collaboration with the Cultural Association and the Municipality of Malevizi. The archaeological site will remain open for visitors from 21:00 until the end of the event.
Archaeological Site of Armenoi
Opening of exhibition "Dieleuseis" at 20:00. Sculptural installations on life and death issues by 4 Greek artists: Kalliopi Lemou, Antonis Volanakis, Thanos Kyriakides, Manousos Chalkiadakis, in collaboration with the Museum of Contemporary Art of Crete and with the supervision of its artistic director, Maria Marangou. The exhibition will remain until 15/9/2018.
Venetian Villa De Mezzo in Etia (courtyard)
"Musical event in the courtyard with ""IONIKO - Songs of love in times of refuge"" by the composer Dimitris Sfakianakis, with the musical ensemble ""Chroes"" (Voice ensemble and orchestra). Event hours from 20:30 to 23:30.
