This tavern with the strange name is probably the most historic tavern of Heraklion and certainly one of the best places in town for those who want to taste delicious, quality food at very good prices. The owner, Georgia, continues the long tradition of her father and has built a lush garden that resembles a small oasis in the heart of Lakkos district. The menu is updated regularly and sometimes includes culnary surprises, inspired by the Cretan cuisine with a touch of Asia Minor. Do not miss the excellent caprico (slowly cooked pork) and gamopilafo (a kind of pilaf usually served exclusively on Cretan weddings). When you finish your meal, remember to save some space for the mandatory treat of handmade sesame nougat with ice cream. "Vourvouladiko" has developed into one of the most popular places to eat in town so ... making a reservation is wise, especially on weekends!
The tavern is open every evening except Mondays.
